weather belfast saw temperatures top 25C on Monday, with Belfast International airport reaching 25C before dipping to 23C. Armagh recorded the day’s highest reading at 25.6C, while Hillsborough reached 25.5C.
Greg Dewhurst on Monday
Greg Dewhurst, a forecaster at the Met Office, said Tuesday should bring more cloud and possibly an isolated spot of light rain very first thing in the morning. He added that Wednesday will bring plenty of sunny spells, with Belfast maybe around 19 or 20C and the west reaching around 24 or 25C.
Monday’s hottest day
The warm spell made Monday the hottest day of the year in Northern Ireland, after Sunday had also peaked at 25C. Derry reached 20C earlier in the day before sea breezes brought it back down to 18C, showing how quickly coastal conditions pulled readings lower in some places.
Week ahead in Northern Ireland
Dewhurst said Thursday would stay largely dry with plenty of sunny spells and temperatures around 23C, before Friday brings fresher Atlantic air and highs of 21 or 22C. He said the weekend carries an increasing chance of some rain through Saturday and possibly into Sunday, while the north of Ireland stayed short of its all-time May record of 28.3C set at Lisburn in 1922.
