Meta Cuts Nearly 1,400 Washington Jobs Starting July 22 — Meta News
Meta news turned into a Washington workforce cut on July 22, when the company will start terminating nearly 1,400 employees across Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, and remote positions. Bellevue carries the largest share, and the cuts reach software engineers, data scientists, content designers, and IT staff.
Bellevue Bears 699 Cuts
Bellevue will lose 699 workers, the biggest slice of the reduction. Seattle accounts for 259 employees across two offices, Redmond has 206 workers, and 231 remote employees are included statewide.
Meta’s AI Shift
Meta said the changes vary by team and include layoffs, open role closures, and moving thousands of employees to business critical priorities across the company. That language points to a reordering of work, not just a headcount trim.
Last week, the company announced plans to eliminate roughly 10% of its workforce while shifting thousands of workers into AI-focused roles. Meta employed nearly 78,000 workers globally at the end of March, and the Washington cuts show how that reset reaches specific offices and remote staff before it reaches the rest of the business.
Washington WARN Notice
Meta filed a WARN notice with the Washington State Employment Security Department on Friday. The notice sets the July 22 start date for terminations in the state, and the company is also ramping up spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure.
“The changes we are implementing vary by team and include layoffs, open role closures and moving thousands of employees to business critical priorities across the company.”
The immediate question for workers is not strategy but timing, because July 22 is the day the cuts begin to land in Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, and remote roles across Washington.
