Thousands to ride Montreal streets in Tour De L'ile May 29 and 31

Thousands of cyclists will take over Montreal streets on the tour de l'ile and Tour la Nuit on May 29 and May 31, bringing major circulation impacts to central boroughs. The Festival Go vélo Montréal will again use the city's core for two mass rides that start and finish at parc Jarry.

The city says street closures and parking prohibitions are expected on the routes. Residents are being asked to respect the parking bans, plan trips in advance and favor public transit or active mobility where possible.

Parc Jarry and the two rides

The festival opens with the Tour la Nuit on May 29, 2026, before the Tour de l'Île de Montréal returns on May 31, 2026. Both events are built around parc Jarry as the point of departure and arrival, giving the weekend a fixed hub even as the routes move through central Montreal.

That setup matters for anyone driving, parking or moving through the core of the city during the festival. The measures are not limited to one ride or one day; they stretch across Friday and Sunday and will affect some central boroughs as the cyclists roll through.

Christine Black on the city streets

Christine Black said it is a happiness for her to know that thousands of cyclists of all ages will once again take over the streets of the metropolis. She said the event gives some people a chance to discover the pleasures of cycling in the city and to discover the city differently.

Vélo Québec and the logistics

Jean-François Rheault called the Tour la Nuit and the Tour de l'Île de Montréal emblematic events that play an important role in the development of cycling culture and the city's visibility. He also thanked the City of Montreal for the essential logistical support that allows the rides to take place year after year.

For drivers and residents, the immediate takeaway is practical: expect closures, respect the parking bans and build extra time into travel on both dates. Details of the routes, closure schedules and recommendations are available on the event website, but the city has already made the main instruction plain — avoid treating the festival weekend like a normal commute.
