Hyundai recalls 6,000 Elantra Hybrids in Canada over overheating software — Transport Canada Hyundai Recall
Hyundai's transport canada hyundai recall covers approximately 6,000 Elantra Hybrid vehicles in Canada from the 2024-2026 model years after a hybrid power control unit problem that could overheat. The fix is a dealer software update at no cost to owners.
The issue could prevent the car from starting, trigger reduced power mode while driving, and turn on the malfunction indicator lamp. Hyundai said no related fires, incidents or injuries have been reported in Canada.
Elantra Hybrid owners in Canada
Owners will be notified by mail and told to schedule an appointment with a dealer for the software update. Hyundai identified the affected vehicles as a specific model-year group, not the full Elantra lineup, limiting the recall to the 2024-2026 Elantra Hybrid.
The model pairs a four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor and is described as one of the most fuel-efficient cars on the market. It generates 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, with fuel consumption listed at 5.4 L/100 km and 4.7 L/100 km.
Previous Elantra Hybrid recall
This is not the first Elantra Hybrid recall. Two years ago, Hyundai recalled 2021-2022 models to replace a potentially defective rearview camera after the image might not display when the vehicle was reversing.
The earlier recall involved 54,000 units in the United States, while the current Canadian action is much smaller and centers on software rather than a camera replacement. For drivers in the affected Canadian model years, the practical step is to wait for the mail notice and then book the dealer visit that completes the repair without charge.
