Crescent Pharma Limited recalls GR155023 Ramipril 2.5mg capsules

Crescent Pharma Limited is recalling ramipril 2.5mg capsules from batch GR155023 after a packaging error left some cartons with blister strips labeled as Ramipril 10mg capsules. Dr Alison Cave, the MHRA chief safety officer, urged anyone taking the medicine to check the batch number and compare the carton strength with the strips inside.

“If you take Crescent Pharma Limited Ramipril 2.5mg capsules, check the packaging for batch number GR155023,” she said. “If you have received this batch, check that the medication strength on the carton matches the blister strips inside.” The MHRA said a healthcare professional found a sealed carton containing two blister strips of 10mg capsules.

GR155023 and Crescent Pharma Limited

The recall applies to Crescent Pharma Limited Ramipril 2.5mg capsules from batch GR155023. The MHRA said the affected cartons may contain blister strips of a higher dose, and that the error appears to have happened during packaging of the cartons. Both product batches were manufactured at the same site.

Ramipril is used for high blood pressure, kidney disease and heart failure. The MHRA said taking more ramipril than required may cause fainting, fatigue or altered kidney function.

MHRA advice for patients

Dr Cave told patients not to take the medicine and to contact their dispensing pharmacy if the carton contains blister strips that do not match the 2.5mg label. She also said: “If you have an affected pack or previously received this batch and you believe you have taken any Ramipril 10mg capsules that were included in error and are currently experiencing any side effects, please seek medical advice.”

If the carton contains blister strips correctly labeled as Crescent Pharma Limited Ramipril 2.5mg capsules, the medicine can be continued as usual. The MHRA advised pharmacies and healthcare professionals to stop supplying the impacted batch and return all remaining stock to their suppliers.
