Mitsubishi Unveils New Pajero Timeline With 2026 Debut
Mitsubishi has set the new pajero on a path back to showrooms, with a global debut planned for the third quarter of 2026 and Australian deliveries due in December 2026. Pre-orders are expected to open shortly after the debut, giving buyers a narrow window before first arrivals reach dealers.
The 2027 model will return as a diesel-powered, body-on-frame SUV, using the Triton’s 2.4-litre twin-turbo-diesel engine and SuperSelect II full-time 4x4 system. Dealer sources say it could switch from the Triton’s six-speed automatic to an eight-speed unit, while expected figures include 3500kg braked towing, 800mm of water wading and 8.0L/100km combined fuel use.
Mitsubishi and the Triton base
The Pajero is expected to ride on the same ladder-frame platform as the current Triton ute and to be built in Thailand. That setup points it toward Australia’s large SUV segment, where it is expected to compete directly against the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado.
A camouflaged prototype was spotted in Melbourne’s CBD as recently as March, adding a public sighting to earlier sightings in Australia. Mitsubishi’s 10-year warranty could also shape buyer interest once the vehicle reaches dealers.
Australia’s large SUV market
Diesel is expected to lead the launch, while hybrid powertrains are understood to be in development as NVES emissions laws tighten from 2027. That leaves Mitsubishi with a clear first step for the market and a second phase already under pressure from emissions rules.
For Australian buyers, the practical countdown now runs from the third-quarter debut to December deliveries, with pre-orders expected to open in between. The first decision point comes when Mitsubishi opens ordering after the global reveal, and that will show how the brand prices the Pajero against Everest and Prado before the first cars land at the end of the year.
