Deandre Kane arrested at Pittsburgh Airport over $100,000 child support
Deandre Kane was taken into custody at Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday after arriving from Iceland. The 36-year-old professional basketball player had been wanted since 2023 in a child support case tied to more than $100,000 in missed payments.
Pittsburgh International Airport arrest
Detectives from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Allegheny County Police and the U.S. Department of State learned Kane would be returning to Pittsburgh from Iceland on Friday, then took him into custody after he got off the flight. He is now being held in the Allegheny County Jail while he awaits a hearing in family court.
The arrest ended a search that began after Kane failed to appear in family court in 2023 for a hearing about missed child support payments. The sheriff's office said he owed more than $100,000.
Kane's Iceland return
Kane had been living in Iceland while continuing his professional basketball career. He has played overseas for various clubs since 2014, a run that kept him out of Pittsburgh until the return that led to his arrest.
The case also brings his basketball roots back into focus. Kane is a Pittsburgh native and a former Schenley High School and City League standout, making the airport arrest a local story as much as a legal one.
Allegheny County Jail holding
For now, the next step is the family court hearing. Kane remains in county custody as the child support case moves forward from an airport stop that turned a planned return home into an arrest.
