Kai Havertz Matches Messi With 2 Ucl Finals Goals
Kai Havertz scored in the opening minutes against Paris Saint-Germain and moved onto two goals in ucl finals. The Arsenal striker now shares Lionel Messi’s final scoring tally, while Cristiano Ronaldo still leads that chase with four.
Havertz’s latest strike came on Saturday and gave Arsenal the lead early. It was his second Champions League final goal, adding to the winner he scored for Chelsea in the 2021 final against Manchester City.
Messi’s Three Finals
Messi’s final goals came for Barcelona in only three appearances. He scored in the 2009 final in Rome, when Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0, and again in the 2011 final at Wembley, where Barcelona won 3-1 against the same opponent.
That leaves him with two goals in Champions League finals and four Champions League titles overall. He missed Barcelona’s 2006 final against Arsenal because of a hamstring injury, a detail that explains why his final total never had a chance to grow beyond three matches.
Ronaldo’s Four-Goal Mark
Ronaldo remains ahead on four Champions League final goals across six finals for Manchester United and Real Madrid. He won his first title in 2008, scored from the penalty spot in the 2014 final against Atletico Madrid, then added a brace against Juventus in the 2017 final.
He did not score in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Liverpool in the 2018 final. That record still sits alone above Havertz and Messi, with Alfredo Di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas tied for the highest total at seven goals each.
Havertz has already joined a small group of players with multiple Champions League final goals, and Saturday’s finish pushed him into a tie with Messi rather than toward Ronaldo. The next comparison in this scoring race is not close to him yet: Di Stefano and Puskas remain six goals clear.
