Rhonda Revelle Gets Tanya Tucker Surprise Before Nebraska’s WCWS Open

Rhonda Revelle got a video-call surprise Wednesday night when Tanya Tucker joined Nebraska softball’s dinner before its opening Women’s College World Series game against Arkansas. The moment landed at a rare point for the program, with Nebraska heading into its first Women’s College World Series appearance since 2013.

Revelle’s Wednesday Night Dinner

The Huskers gathered for a lively dinner hosted by Revelle on Wednesday night, and the room sang “Delta Dawn.” That song had already taken on a life of its own for this team, and Revelle said it was a personal favorite.

Revelle then asked Tucker to sing “Delta Dawn” with a lead-in of “Amazing Grace.” Tucker did exactly that during the video call, and a close-up video showed Revelle’s jaw drop open when Tucker appeared on the big screen.

Delta Dawn At Nebraska

The song was not new to this group. Nebraska players and coaches had also sung “Delta Dawn” after knocking off Oklahoma State in the super regionals, which tied the dinner to the postseason run that brought the Huskers back to this stage.

That run ended Nebraska’s wait for another Women’s College World Series berth and set up Thursday’s opener against Arkansas. For Revelle, the dinner folded a familiar song, a surprise guest and a team on the edge of a long-awaited return into one night.

Arkansas Awaits Nebraska

Nebraska was set to open the Women’s College World Series against Arkansas on Thursday, and the Wednesday-night scene gave the team one more shared moment before the bracket action began. The sendoff came with Tucker on the line, Revelle laughing in disbelief, and “Delta Dawn” carrying into the biggest week the program has had since 2013.
