PlayStation opens Onimusha Demo before September 25, 2026 launch
PlayStation has made the onimusha demo available today for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, giving PS5 players access to about 30 minutes of the early story before the full game arrives on September 25, 2026. The demo lets players sample Parry, Deflect, Issen, Oni Armament and absorbing souls.
Pre-orders are also open on PlayStation Store. Players who save demo progress will not carry that progress into the full game, but that save data will unlock the Charm: Kubi Akari after release.
Musashi in Kyoto
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in Kyoto during the early Edo period and follows Miyamoto Musashi, who gains the power of the Oni while facing the Genma. PlayStation said: "Play it for yourself and experience the first few stages of Musashi’s path for strength and knowledge."
The demo takes place at the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage and includes a battle against Sasaki Ganryu. That gives players a direct look at the game’s combat systems rather than a limited trailer-only preview.
Demo data and pre-orders
The difference between the demo and the final release is straightforward: what players do today does not transfer into the full version, but the save file still has a reward attached to it. Players who pre-order now get the Charm: Lion Dog and the Sword Appearance: Sealed Curse.
PlayStation also said, "Ahead of the game’s release September 25, 2026, the demo featuring about 30 minutes of the early story is available today." The available facts point to a short trial built around the opening of Musashi’s route rather than a separate side mode.
Mount Oe in the trailer
The 5th trailer features Mount Oe in Kyoto, where Shuten Doji uses the mountain as his stronghold. That places the demo and the trailer in the same larger setting, with Kyoto and its nearby locations framing the game’s action around Musashi and the Genma.
For players deciding whether to pre-order, the practical choice is immediate: try the demo now, then decide whether the save-data bonus and pre-order items are worth locking in before the September 25, 2026 release on PlayStation 5.
