Kevin Kiley runs in CA-6 after Proposition 50 redraw

kevin kiley is running in California’s 6th Congressional District after Proposition 50 redrew the seat on November 4, 2025. The new map puts him in a race that now also includes Ami Bera, the current representative from CA-6, who is running in CA-3.

The redraw created a fresh contest in CA-6 before early voting began 29 days before June 2, 2026. Lauren Babb Tomlinson is one of the candidates in the district’s top-two primary, where she is facing 6 other candidates, including 4 other Democrats and another Republican besides Kiley.

Proposition 50 redraws CA-6

Proposition 50 passed on November 4, 2025, and California’s 6th Congressional District was redrawn after that vote. The change matters because the district no longer matches the seat voters had before the map was altered, and the race now involves a current representative from another district.

Kiley, the current representative from CA-3, says he switched from R to I. Bera, who currently holds CA-6, is running in CA-3, leaving both districts with incumbent crossovers after the new lines took effect.

Lauren Babb Tomlinson in CA-6

Tomlinson’s candidacy gives the race its clearest field-level shape. She is running against 6 other candidates in the June 2, 2026, top-two primary, and her lineup includes 4 other Democrats, 1 other Republican, and Kiley.

Her campaign has leaned on a long public-service record. Tomlinson has worked as a consultant for TBWB Strategies, served as Public Affairs Director for Planned Parenthood Northern California, worked as Assistant Director of the Office of Legislation and Regulations at the California Department of Developmental Sciences, and now serves as Chief Public Affairs Officer for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.

Tomlinson endorsements and record

Tomlinson has also collected endorsements from Emily’s List, Higher Heights, Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, and CBCPAC, along with Reps. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, Jasmine Crockett, and Lateefah Simon. Her background includes a Bachelor’s degree in American Government from American University, a Master’s degree in Political Management from The George Washinton University, year-long experience as a community organizer, legislation written at the state and local level, and a multi-million-dollar grant program created after Covid.

She has also used her campaign statements to draw a clear contrast in tone. In one post, she said, “We will fight this hard – people want lower costs, not ICE cruelty and Trump nonsense.” In another, she wrote, “I stood with #HouseDems & #SenateDems as we united against Republicans’ reckless budget that puts working families last.”

For voters in CA-6, the immediate practical effect is that the district has become a new battleground before the June 2 primary, with early voting already underway 29 days before that date. The race now centers on which of the seven candidates can break through in a district reshaped by Proposition 50 and pulled into a contest between sitting members of Congress.
