Chris Robinson Booed After Tampa USA Chant Backlash

chris robinson was booed on Sunday night in Tampa after he pushed back at a crowd chanting “USA” during a Black Crowes show on the Southern Hospitality Tour. The flashpoint came moments before “She Talks to Angels,” when the exchange turned a concert crowd into an open confrontation.

Tampa crowd turns on Robinson

The chant started after an image of the band’s black crow mascot dressed as Uncle Sam appeared on a screen behind the stage. Robinson answered with, “Thanks for the geography lesson” and, “I don't know what you have to be so proud of right now,” before the audience responded with boos.

In a clip obtained by TMZ, he then said, “Some of us have real faith.” He followed with, “For those of you f–king booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not f–king ignorant.”

Southern Hospitality Tour pressure

The outburst landed in the middle of a tour built around the band’s 10th studio album, A Pound of Feathers. That matters because the show was not an isolated appearance; it was part of a promotion cycle for a band that split in 2015 and reunited in 2019.

Robinson had told Mojo in March, “I’m not interested in politics. I’m more interested in poetry and art and people and experience.” The Tampa reaction cut against that statement and turned a routine set list into a public split between performer and crowd.

Black Crowes after 2019

Some audience members started leaving the venue after the boos. For a band that started in 1984 and still trades on the legacy of 1990’s Shake Your Money Maker and 1992’s The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, the scene in Tampa shows how quickly a live show can shift when the room stops treating the music as the main event.
