Southbound 405 lanes reopen after Brentwood Fire near Skirball
The brentwood fire near the Skirball Cultural Center briefly shut southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway on Thursday after flames broke out off the road in the Sepulveda Pass. Firefighters reached the area near Mulholland Drive at 2:30 p.m., when the fire was burning uphill.
Sepulveda Pass response
The Los Angeles Fire Department said light winds were in the area as crews worked to establish hose lines around the flames. Officials said the fire burned just over three acre, and about 60 firefighters were on scene at the height of the response.
Firefighters stopped forward progress within 35 minutes. No structures were damaged, and some southbound lanes reopened around 4 p.m. before the California Highway Patrol announced just before 7 p.m. that all lanes were open again.
405 Freeway reopening
The closure hit southbound traffic during the afternoon rush on a corridor that carries heavy daily volume through the pass. For drivers who were slowed or diverted, the practical change came in stages: first partial reopening around 4 p.m., then a full reopening later in the evening.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
