Wang Zyuan found dead on Saint Kitts after May 27 hike

Wang Zyuan, a 33-year-old cruise ship passenger, was found dead Monday on saint kitts after disappearing last week during a solo hike on Mount Liamuiga. Police said search crews located his body after days of work on the eastern Caribbean island.

Wang was last seen May 27 on the Mount Liamuiga hiking trail, and police said he called 911 that afternoon to report that he was lost. Officers later lost contact with him, then volunteers and crews from multiple agencies searched the area before finding his body.

Mount Liamuiga search

The search centered on Mount Liamuiga, the dormant volcano that forms the highest peak on St. Kitts at nearly 3,800 feet. A Caribbean cruise ship company that advertises the trail calls it an extremely strenuous hike and says the route can be muddy or slippery, which placed Wang alone on a demanding trail before he vanished.

Police did not provide a cause of death and said the investigation is ongoing. In a statement after the body was found, The Force said, "The Force extends its heartfelt condolences to Mr Wang's family, friends, and associates during this painful time" and "We respectfully ask the public to refrain from speculation and to rely only on official sources for accurate information as this matter proceeds."

Police investigation on St. Kitts

The case now rests with investigators on St. Kitts and Nevis as they work from the 911 call, the last sighting on May 27, and the location where search crews found Wang. For passengers using the trail, the record left by police and the cruise company is the clearest warning: this was a solo hike on a strenuous route that required a multi-agency search to bring it to an end.
