Hugo Hall Kahan Set for Adelaide Debut Against Geelong
hugo hall kahan is set to make his AFL debut for Adelaide against Geelong on Thursday night, just nine days after arriving at the club. The 22-year-old mid-season draftee gets straight into the senior side after a rapid move from Williamstown and a role change to half-back this season.
Worrell Alongside Hall-Kahan
Josh Worrell will line up next to him in Adelaide's backline, giving Hall-Kahan a familiar presence in his first AFL game. Jack Hombsch said that support has mattered since the move to West Lakes, with Worrell helping him settle in and taking him into his home.
Hall-Kahan and Worrell grew up together in Melbourne and attended Haileybury College, so Adelaide is not asking him to learn every face and every routine at once. Hombsch said the club wants him to play on instinct and use all his weapons, a brief that fits a player who averaged 27.7 disposals in the VFL this season.
Adelaide's Half-Back Plan
Hall-Kahan's path has moved fast. He was selected in the Telstra AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft last week, after joining Sydney as a mid-year pick-up in 2022 without playing AFL-level football there.
He switched to half-back this year, and Adelaide views that as a possible help to its rebound from defence in the second half of the season. Wayne Milera has been the most attacking outlet from the back line, averaging a team-high 26.3 disposals, so Hall-Kahan arrives into a role where ball use matters immediately.
Hombsch said the club had been pleased by Hall-Kahan's defensive intent and his edge in contact, while also stressing the freedom the debutant has earned. For Adelaide, the cleanest read is simple: one new defender, one familiar teammate beside him, and a first test against Geelong under Thursday-night pressure.
