Jon Groenen says suspect detained after Surrey Crossbow shooting
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a crossbow shooting at the University of Surrey on Thursday morning. Surrey Police said officers were called to Manor Park Student Village in Guildford at around 10:00 BST after reports that a man in his 50s had been shot.

Ch Supt Jon Groenen said the suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident. He added: "An investigation is now under way to establish the circumstances of the assault," and said: "I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities."
The university said a member of its campus safety team had been "seriously injured" and taken to hospital. Surrey Police said the victim's next of kin had been informed and were being supported by officers.

The suspect was described by police as a former student at the university, and he remains in custody. The University of Surrey said it was giving police its full support, while also saying the campus was open and operational.
A significant emergency services presence remained at the scene after the shooting. Groenen said: "We are working closely with the university as our investigation progresses." Surrey Police urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
