Second Facebook privacy settlement checks start June 9 — Facebook User Privacy Settlement

Eligible recipients in the facebook user privacy settlement will start getting notice on June 9 about a second payment from leftover funds. The court-approved round is aimed at people who already received and cashed the first check, and the payments are expected to reach them in batches over four weeks.

California court approves second payouts

A U.S. District Court in California approved the second round from the $725 million settlement after the first distribution left money behind. The new payments draw from about $100 million that remained after legal and administrative costs, uncashed checks, and expired digital payments were taken out of the original pool.

About 15.7 million people who successfully cashed the initial payment are in line for the bonus checks. They do not have to file a second claim, and they will be notified three to four days before their payment is issued.

What the first round left behind

The settlement was open to Facebook users with accounts from 2007 to 2022, and about 250 million people were eligible to file claims. Roughly 19 million claims were filed and validated, leaving about $556 million to split after fees, but more than 200,000 checks were never cashed and 3 million digital payments expired.

That leftover money now makes the second round possible, but the checks are smaller. The minimum payment this time is $4.67, the maximum is $7.32, and the average is expected to be about $6.

Payment methods and next steps

The administrator will send the money by check, direct deposit, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and prepaid debit cards. Anyone who is unsure about payment status or needs a check reissued can contact the settlement administrator.

The practical issue for recipients is simple: cashing the first payment is what puts them in line for the second one. The new round does not reopen claims for people who missed the first deadline, so the only immediate action for eligible recipients is to watch for the notice window beginning June 9.
