Valve Steam Machine Release Date Slides to This Summer
Valve’s valve steam machine release date now points to this summer, and the company said the Steam Machine PC and Steam Frame VR headset are both set to launch sometime then. The shift gives buyers a narrower window after Valve had already pushed its shipping plans around.
Valve’s Summer Window
Valve made the update in a Thursday blog post about its Verified programs for both devices. That is the clearest signal yet that the Steam Machine is moving toward release, after Valve originally said it would start shipping the new gadgets in early 2026.
In February, Valve said an ongoing memory and storage crunch had forced it to revisit pricing and shipping plans. In March, Valve said it would be shipping all three products this year, and it later removed the line “we hope to ship in 2026” from a blog post update.
Steam Machine Verified
For the Steam Machine, a game marked verified is expected to work well without user tweaks. Valve said those verification requirements are “nearly identical” to the Steam Deck’s, and it said the Steam Machine is “roughly six times as powerful” as the Steam Deck.
Valve also said it is testing every title on Machine that fell below its performance requirements on Deck. That points to a narrower launch list than a simple hardware spec sheet would suggest, because compatibility work is part of the rollout.
Steam Frame Out-of-Box
Valve said the Steam Frame verified badge means games run well natively on the headset. The headset can also stream games. Valve said the Steam Frame Standalone Verified program focuses on “the experience customers will have with the device out-of-the-box in standalone mode.”
Valve is redesigning the Steam store and sharing information about the Verified programs before launching the devices. For players, the next practical question is pricing, because Valve has already changed its shipping plans once and has not laid out that figure in the facts available here.
