Brandon Sproat Starts as Brewers Vs Rockies Opens Colorado Trip

The brewers vs rockies opener put Brandon Sproat back on the mound for Milwaukee as the club opened a six-game road trip out west in Colorado. The Brewers arrived after dropping two straight and were trying to avoid three in a row for the first time since late April.

Brandon Sproat Faces Pressure

Sproat entered after allowing 10 home runs this season, and his last start did little to quiet the questions. Against the Houston Astros, he worked 4 1/3 innings, gave up five runs and allowed six hits.

That performance made this turn against Colorado one of the cleaner checkpoints in the Brewers’ trip. Pat Murphy had already sent a blunt message after the previous outing: “We’re not going to tolerate too many duds like this, that’s for sure.”

Ryan Feltner Brings A Different Track

Ryan Feltner started for Colorado with a much different recent line. He posted a 7.41 ERA in April and allowed five home runs that month, but after spending most of May on the 15-day injured list, he returned to throw six scoreless innings and allow four hits against the San Francisco Giants.

The Rockies also came in with momentum. They had won back-to-back series and four of their last six games, giving Milwaukee a tougher opening test than their record suggested on paper.

Brewers Shuffle The Roster

Milwaukee also changed its roster before first pitch. DL Hall went on the 15-day injured list with a left pectoral strain, and Jake Woodford was designated for assignment after a rough outing in the previous game.

Craig Yoho and Brian Fitzpatrick took their places. Yoho returned to the big league club for the first time since last season after putting up a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings for Nashville in 2026, with three saves and 24 strikeouts. Fitzpatrick had allowed one earned run in his first four outings with the Brewers.

With the rotation spot and the bullpen both under early scrutiny, Milwaukee got its first road-trip answer in Colorado. The game also carried smaller matchup edges: William Contreras entered with 16 at-bats against Feltner and a.188 average, while Christian Yelich was batting.417 with a 1.084 OPS through 12 at-bats against him.
