Jalen Brunson Leads Knicks Past Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 — Knicks – Spurs
The Knicks – Spurs opener ended 105-95 for New York in San Antonio, and Jalen Brunson was the offensive center of it. The win pushed the Knicks to 12 straight playoff games and left them three victories from their first title since 1973.
Brunson Sets the Pace
Brunson took over when the Knicks needed a scorer to steady them. He was the key offensively in Game 1, and New York used that edge to separate from a Spurs team that had already knocked out the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the previous round.
Victor Wembanyama had long stretches where he was kept quiet, even though he forced his way back into the game late. With 2:16 left, he had taken over and restored the Spurs' lead, but the Knicks still closed it out with 21.1 seconds left.
Towns and Wembanyama
Karl-Anthony Towns also swung the matchup at both ends. He arguably got the better of Wembanyama in the game, while the Spurs center still produced points at the line, hitting 12 free throws in 13 attempts.
That was the sharpest friction point in the game: New York found enough resistance inside to keep Wembanyama from turning control into a finish, while the Knicks’ own frontcourt work gave Brunson room to dictate the rest.
Frost Bank Center Awaits
Game 2 was set for 8.30pm ET at Frost Bank Center, and the series now turns on whether San Antonio can get more from Wembanyama on both ends. Walt Frazier was in attendance as well, carrying the memory of Knicks championships in 1970 and 1973 into a series New York now leads after one game.
