Patrick Wilson Talks Cape Fear Role With Joe Anders

patrick wilson called Cape Fear a full-circle moment after working alongside Joe Anders, Kate Winslet’s son, in the Apple TV+ series. Wilson had worked with Winslet in Todd Field’s Little Children in 2006, and the new series puts that earlier connection on screen through their children.

Wilson told Entertainment Tonight that he did talk to Anders about the link to Little Children. He said, "I did, but that’s always an interesting reference. Because you don’t know if he’s seen the film. ‘Did you see it?’ ‘No, I haven’t seen it,’ ‘Okay, good good good. You don’t need to.’ Anyway, we had a great time together."

June 5 on Apple TV+

Cape Fear premiered on Apple TV+ on June 5, 2026, with Wilson playing Tom Bowden and Anders playing Zack Bowden. The first two episodes are streaming now, and the remaining eight episodes will drop weekly, giving the series a staggered rollout instead of a single-day release.

The project also reaches back to John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners and the 1962 and 1991 film adaptations, which keeps the title tied to a familiar property while introducing a new cast dynamic. Wilson’s comments put the focus less on legacy branding and more on the unusual professional overlap between two families that already know the same creative circles.

Winslet, Anders, Mendes

Wilson also said, "She’s, you know, one of the greatest. Such a pro. The apple doesn’t fall far…with him. You know, obviously, also his dad, Sam Mendes. That’s two powerhouse artistic folks right there." That line turns the casting into a neat industry footnote: the series pairs a 52-year-old actor with the son of two major figures while still keeping the work itself front and center.

For viewers, the immediate takeaway is simple. The opening pair of episodes is already available, and the weekly release means the Wilson-Anders pairing will stay in view as the series unfolds rather than disappearing after a one-night drop.
