London Fire Brigade Reaches 80 Fulham Businesses in Safety Drive

London Fire Brigade visited 80 businesses on North End Road in Fulham last month as part of an Active Risk Target Day. Firefighters, safety officers, Fire Cadets and local authority partners checked premises used by pubs, shops, restaurants and hotels.

North End Road Checks

The brigade said the visits focused on escape routes, alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire doors and risk assessments. Crews also spoke with residents, workers and visitors throughout the day and shared advice on reducing common fire risks in the home.

The operation came after recent regulatory changes that place responsibility on those in control of premises to manage fire risks and protect occupants. That made the day less of a one-off outreach effort and more of a direct check on how businesses are handling their obligations on a busy high street and market route.

Sami Goldbrom on Fulham

Group Commander Sami Goldbrom said, "Our Active Risk Target Day on North End Road was a valuable opportunity to work directly with businesses and the local community to promote fire safety." He added, "By bringing together borough teams, local authority partners, Fire Cadets and crews from Fulham and Hammersmith fire stations, we were able to provide practical guidance, support businesses in understanding their responsibilities and strengthen our engagement with the community."

Goldbrom also said, "Reaching 80 businesses in a single day highlights the value of partnership working in helping to keep people safe."

Follow-Up Support Arranged

Where crews identified concerns, the brigade arranged follow-up support. Some visits led to additional inspections, and some led to full fire safety audits to check compliance.

Hammersmith & Fulham Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Skills Zarar Qayyum said, "Helping local entrepreneurs and business owners to enhance their fire safety measures and keep residents safe with London Fire Brigade is just one of the ways we’re doing that with our partners." Borough Commander Lucy MacLeod said, "Keeping people safe is most effective when local agencies work together."

For businesses visited last month, the immediate outcome was practical: checks were made, issues were flagged where needed, and some premises were moved into further inspection or audit. The operation leaves a clear standard for North End Road operators to meet, not just an advisory visit to note and move on from.
