Rain Stops Queen's Tennis 2026 After One Game in London

Heavy rain halted queen's tennis 2026 after one game in west London on Monday. The first day was delayed past its scheduled 12.45pm start, then stopped again when the opening matches had barely begun.

Qinwen Zheng And Jaqueline Cristian

Qinwen Zheng had contested only eight points against Jaqueline Cristian before the umpire sent the players off. Karolina Pliskova was 1-0 up against McCartney Kessler when the rain returned, and Harriet Dart managed just one point in her opening match.

Three opening first-round matches eventually got under way a couple of hours later, but the weather cut them short almost immediately. Queen's then said there would be no play until at least 5pm on Monday.

West London Rain At Queen's

The setting left the tournament exposed. Queen's has no covered courts, unlike Wimbledon, and further rain was expected in west London over the next three days.

The weather also changed the broadcast plan. The began coverage only when play looked ready to start, then switched away and later said a re-run of Venus Williams against Serena Williams at Wimbledon would go out instead before other programmes resumed.

Boulter And Raducanu

Katie Boulter was due to face eighth seed Leylah Fernandez at some point on Monday, while Emma Raducanu was due on court on Tuesday. That kept British interest alive, but the schedule now sat behind the rain rather than the draw.

For players already on court, the interruption turned the opening round into a waiting game after barely any tennis had been played. For everyone else in the draw, Monday's delay left the tournament starting from a weather forecast instead of a scoreboard.
