Keaton Winn sees Roupp rebound in 3-2 loss to Cubs

Landen Roupp turned in a rebound for keaton winn’s Giants, allowing one run in 5.2 innings Saturday in a 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision after opening with five scoreless frames and then giving up a solo homer in the sixth.

Roupp, Cubs, and five scoreless frames

Roupp finished with three hits, three walks and five strikeouts across 98 pitches. He left one out shy of a quality start, which is a cleaner line than the eight runs he allowed while pitching through back discomfort in his previous outing Monday.

The difference showed in the first five innings. Roupp kept Chicago off the board before the sixth inning homer broke the shutout and put pressure back on San Francisco in a game that eventually went extras.

Giants rotation after Saturday

That outing pushed Roupp to a 4.00 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 77:30 K:BB over 69.2 innings this season. Those numbers give the Giants a steadier recent baseline than the one he carried out of Monday’s rough start.

He lines up for a home rematch against the Cubs next weekend, and Saturday’s work gives him a better platform going into that start. The task now is repeating the command that held through five innings and avoiding the crooked inning that changed the game in the sixth.
