Mehidy Calms Mosaddek’s Bangladesh Vs Australia Recall With Clear Role Plan

Bangladesh vs Australia opened with a selection question, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz answered it by separating his job from Mosaddek Hossain’s. The captain said the recalled all-rounder can fit in the same XI without confusion. Bangladesh began the ODI series against Australia at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz on Mosaddek

“Look, let me say one thing. Regarding the issue of Mosaddek, he and I have played together in the Bangladesh team for many years. If you look back, we were also part of the 2019 World Cup squad together. So, I don’t think the situation is any different or special issue,” Mehidy Hasan Miraz told reporters on Monday.

He drew the line more sharply in the next answer. “Mosaddek will play his role, and I will play mine. Mosaddek is a batting all-rounder, while I am a bowling all-rounder. So our roles are different. I think if he can perform well, it will be a huge help for both me and the team,” he said.

Mosaddek’s return after four years

Mosaddek Hossain is back in the national squad after a four-year break, and the new selection committee led by Habibul Bashar brought him in for this ODI series. Bashar said his preferred role is to bat at six or seven and bowl a bit, which gives Bangladesh another option in the middle and lower order.

Mehidy backed that plan with an emphasis on balance. “It helps the team when we’ve got such an option. When you play with five specialist bowlers but you have an extra bowler, then you’ll be confident. A bowler can experience a bad day. So if you have a backup bowler, then the balance remains in good shape,” he said.

The recall also lines up with Mosaddek’s recent domestic form, which Mehidy used as the basis for his confidence. “At the end of the day, all of us are focused on how far we can take this team. And I’m very confident about him, considering the way he has performed in domestic cricket. If he gets the opportunity, I believe he will do well,” he said.

That leaves Bangladesh with a clearer shape for Monday’s series opener. Towhid Hridoy will bat at number five, while Mosaddek’s inclusion gives Mehidy another bowling option without forcing the captain into a new role. “He’ll bat at his usual position. He’ll bat at five,” Mehidy said, keeping the rest of the batting order in place while Bangladesh test a new selection combination against Australia.
