Dustin Fletcher, John Worsfold Joins Hall of Fame With West Coast Legacy
dustin fletcher was among the names tied to a Hall of Fame night that put John Worsfold into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Worsfold’s place came after a West Coast career that stretched from premiership captaincy to coaching and club administration.
John Worsfold and West Coast
Worsfold was inducted on Tuesday after becoming one of the most significant figures in West Coast history. He captained the Eagles to their first two premierships in 1992 and 1994, played 209 games for the club and won All-Australian selection twice.
His influence did not stop at the end of his playing career. Before the 2002 season, West Coast appointed him coach, and he later guided the club to the 2006 premiership. By the time his coaching run ended in 2013, he had set a club record with 281 games in charge.
Bill Walker Reaches Legend Status
The Hall of Fame night also lifted Bill Walker to the 34th Legend of Australian Football. Walker was the only four-time winner of the Sandover Medal, won five club champion awards and booted 456 goals across 305 games for Swan Districts between 1961 and 1976.
He also won three consecutive WAFL premierships, collected the Simpson Medal in 1967 and earned All-Australian selection in 1969. Walker played 21 games for Western Australia, giving the honour a record that reached beyond club football.
Tim Evans’ Goal Haul
Tim Evans joined Worsfold in the Hall of Fame class after a career built on scoring. He is one of only two players in SANFL history with more than 1000 goals, won four premierships for Port Adelaide in 1977 and from 1979 to 1981, and led the SANFL goalkicking in six seasons.
Evans kicked 146 goals in 1980 and led Port Adelaide’s goalkicking for nine consecutive seasons from 1977 to 1985. The Hall of Fame’s latest group drew from different eras and leagues, but Worsfold’s induction stood out for the way it joined a playing résumé, a coaching premiership and a later football department role at the same club.
