Josh Inglis Keeps Australia Steady as Aus Vs Bangladesh Squad Shifts
Australia’s aus vs bangladesh ODI squad brings two major absences and two new names. Travis Head and Mitch Marsh will miss the three-match series in Dhaka, while Ollie Peake and Todd Murphy have been added for the tour. Josh Inglis stays on as captain.
Inglis Leads Australia Again
Inglis will keep the ODI captaincy for the three-match series, giving Australia continuity even as the batting group changes around him. The squad that heads to Bangladesh includes Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Murphy, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott, Matt Short and Adam Zampa.
Head will miss the series, and Marsh will also sit out because he is still returning to full fitness from an ankle injury. Tony Dodemaide said, “We were hopeful Mitch Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series however he is still returning to full fitness from an ankle injury”. He added, “Mitch will join the group in Dhaka and begin preparations for the T20I Series.”
Peake and Murphy Added
Peake’s selection extends a rapid rise that has already taken him into Australia’s setup after only six List A matches before the Pakistan tour. He made his international debut in Pakistan, and Inglis said of the newer players filling in for senior names, “It’s a great experience for them”.
Murphy brings a different piece to the squad. He has seven Test caps, but he is yet to play limited-overs cricket for Australia. His inclusion gives Australia another spin option in conditions where he already has tour experience, after Tanveer Sangha was replaced by Murphy in Lahore because of a hamstring injury.
Pakistan Form Carries Over
Matt Short stays in the group after being retained from the Pakistan series, where he opened with a half-century in the first ODI and then took four wickets across the final two matches. Peake and Short were initially named only for the Pakistan ODIs, but both remain in the frame for Bangladesh.
Billy Stanlake and Riley Meredith were replaced by Xavier Bartlett and Ben Dwarshuis in the earlier reshuffle, and Meredith is scheduled to be back for the T20Is that follow the ODIs. Head is also set to miss that three-match T20I series, with Dodemaide saying, “Travis was initially selected in the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour but has subsequently been granted personal leave for both.” He added, “We look forward to seeing him again for the top end Test Series against Bangladesh.”
Australia’s white-ball side won the 2023 ODI World Cup, but this Bangladesh tour now asks the squad to manage without several established players while leaning on a younger group. For readers tracking the ODI series, the names to watch are Peake and Murphy, while Inglis remains the one constant at the top of the operation.
