Max Miller Accuses Tlaib of Hezbollah Ties, House Strikes Remarks

max miller accused Rep. Rashida Tlaib of ties to Hezbollah on the House floor Wednesday, and the chamber quickly shut down the exchange. Jay Obernolte later struck Miller’s words from the record after the floor froze for more than an hour.

House Floor Debate

The clash came during debate over a Lebanon war powers resolution that would force President Donald Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from Lebanon. Tlaib was expected to force a vote on the measure Thursday, while Republicans said the resolution was dangerous because it could affect U.S. military operations in Lebanon to protect the American embassy in Beirut and train the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Miller, an Ohio Republican, said, "Hezbollah is a terrorist organization... and its members are butchers that you like to hang out with to a certain extent," referring to Tlaib. When she yelled back, he replied, "Are we getting a little emotional?"

Jay Obernolte Intervenes

Tlaib answered, "That is an attack on my character," and demanded that Obernolte rule Miller’s remarks out of order. Obernolte then struck Miller’s words from the record and barred him from speaking on the House floor for the rest of Wednesday.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast then took the floor and said, "Yes, I said it. I own it, and I stand by it." He attempted to enter materials into the record about Tlaib’s alleged association with terrorist groups, including a 2023 Digital story reporting that she was a member of a private Facebook group that glorified Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 invasion of Israel.

Thursday Vote

The resolution itself does not mention Hezbollah, even as Republicans argued it would aid the group. Tlaib’s measure was expected to die on the House floor Thursday amid bipartisan opposition, leaving the fight over U.S. forces in Lebanon at the center of the chamber’s next step.
