Mark Hollis Ends Rocket Mortgage Classic After 2026 Detroit Run

The rocket mortgage classic will be played for the final time in 2026, ending an eight-year run in Detroit after Rocket Mortgage declined its option to host the event in 2027. Tournament director Mark Hollis said 2026 will mark the final Rocket Classic, closing a chapter that began in 2019.

Mark Hollis on Detroit

“After nearly 13 years as a PGA Tour title sponsor, including eight years in Detroit, 2026 will mark the final Rocket Classic,” Hollis said. He added: “We are incredibly proud of what this tournament has meant to the city, from creating unforgettable moments for fans to raising more than $10 million for local organizations.”

The event will play one final time in late July, and the decision follows years of weaker fields in the tournament. That leaves 2026 as the last chance for Detroit to host a PGA Tour stop under the Rocket Classic name after the event was previously called the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Rocket Mortgage and 2027

Rocket Mortgage declined its option to host the event in 2027, which ends the current run before the tour’s schedule changes move into place for 2027 and beyond. The tournament’s Detroit stretch produced more than $10 million for local organizations, a figure that gives the final edition added weight beyond the leaderboard.

For fans, the practical takeaway is simple: the 2026 tournament is the end point. Detroit gets one more year of the Rocket Classic, one more late-July week at the course, and one more chance to watch the event before the sponsor exit closes the book on the city’s eight-year run.
