Troop E Trooper Car Removes Snake From Route 2 Car
A state trooper car from Troop E in Montville pulled over a woman driving Route 2 near Foxwoods resort casino Tuesday afternoon after she found a large snake loose in her car. Trooper First Class Charles Workman removed the snake from the vehicle after the woman called police for help.

State police said Workman wrangled the unwanted hitchhiker from the caller's car. The Facebook post on the incident said, "TFC Workman was able to wrangle the unwanted hitchhiker from the caller's car despite the slippery nature of the accused," and added, "Our troopers at Troop E never know what type of call their next one is going to be."
Troop E Facebook Post
By Wednesday morning, the troop's Facebook post had drawn more than 300 posts from readers. Debbie Brown Hudd wrote, "I would have wrecked my car and then had a heart attack!" Rachel Blackmer wrote, "Now I will be checking my car daily. Here I was thinking I only needed to check for spiders …"
Unidentified Snake
State police said the snake was unidentified, and a spokesman said the method of entry into the vehicle was unknown. Some Facebook commenters identified it as a non-venomous Eastern Rat Snake, but that identification came from commenters, not state police.
For drivers, the practical takeaway is simple: a roadside call can become a vehicle search when an animal is loose inside the car, and Troop E handled this one on Route 2 near Foxwoods on Tuesday afternoon.
