George Clooney backs Callum Turner in George Clooney Bond Actor Choice
George Clooney Bond Actor Choice turned into a direct endorsement on June 10, when George Clooney said he hopes Callum Turner ends up being the next James Bond. Clooney added that Turner would be a great Bond, giving the casting discussion a rare public push from someone with both acting and directing credibility.
Clooney's case for Turner
“I hope Callum [Turner] ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond,” Clooney said in a profile of Turner. He went further: “He’s tall and handsome and charming and British, so he’s the perfect guy to do it.”
He also praised Turner’s career choices, saying, “He hasn’t just gone for the easy paychecks – he’s done really interesting work,” and adding, “Somehow Callum has weaved his way through all of the noise and found a place where people look at him and go, ‘There’s something with this young man.’” That kind of backing matters because Turner is already part of the franchise conversation, not an outside name tossed in for attention.
Turner at 36
Turner is 36 years old and has built a screen résumé that includes The Boys in the Boat, Fantastic Beasts, Assassin’s Creed, Masters of the Air, The Only Living Boy in New York and the recent rom-com Eternity. Clooney directed The Boys in the Boat in 2023, which gives this endorsement a personal edge as well as an industry one.
Turner has not leaned into the speculation. “I know as much as you do — really, I know as much as you do,” he said about the Bond rumors, and he said he was “not going to comment on” whether he would accept the role if offered. That keeps the story where the studio wants it right now: in the rumor pool, not at the contract stage.
Bond search in motion
Amazon MGM Studios said in May that the search for the next James Bond is underway, and Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct the next Bond film. No actor has been cast yet. The franchise also sits under Amazon’s control following a 2025 agreement with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Daniel Craig retired from the role with 2021’s No Time to Die, and Barbara Broccoli said in 2020 that the character must remain male but can be of any color. Clooney’s endorsement does not move the finish line, but it does add another public vote to a process that is still open and still fluid. For now, Turner has the kind of name recognition the role usually attracts; what he does not have is the role itself.
