FOX Sports Maps Mexico Fc, U.S. Openers Across 9 Teams
FOX Sports has mapped out its opening-week World Cup 2026 announcer teams, and mexico fc is on the first day of live coverage. Nine commentary teams will travel across North America to call all 104 matches from every one of the tournament’s 16 host cities.
Ian Darke and Landon Donovan will call the World Cup opener between Mexico and South Africa on Thursday, June 11, with Alex Aljoe reporting from Mexico City. Live coverage begins at 1:00 PM ET on FOX, giving the opening match the first on-air assignment in the network’s tournament rollout.
Strong and Holden on U.S. opener
John Strong and Stu Holden will handle the U.S. Men’s National Team opener against Paraguay on Friday, June 12, with Jenny Taft reporting from Los Angeles. FOX will air a special three-hour pregame show at 6:00 PM ET for the U.S. team’s first World Cup match on home soil in more than 30 years.
That slot makes the U.S. match the network’s other marquee assignment in the opening wave, and it places the broadcast team in Los Angeles with Taft working the sideline. The pairing gives FOX a second straight day with one of the tournament’s most watched matches at the front of its schedule.
FOX spreads June coverage
The rest of the first week is spread across FOX and FS1. Jacqui Oatley and Warren Barton will call Korea Republic vs. Czechia from Guadalajara on Thursday, June 11, while Darren Fletcher and Owen Hargreaves will handle Canada vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina from Toronto on Friday, June 12.
Saturday, June 13 brings Derek Rae and Rob Green on Qatar vs. Switzerland on FOX, plus Ian Crocker and Danny Higginbotham on Haiti vs. Scotland on FS1. On Sunday, June 14, JP Dellacamera and Lori Lindsey will call Côte d'Ivoire vs. Ecuador on FS1, and Tyler Terens and Maurice Edu will call Sweden vs. Tunisia on FS1.
Zager's 104-match plan
Brad Zager’s announcement locks in the network’s first-week assignment plan before the tournament opens on Thursday, June 11, with FOX positioned as America’s official English-language home for FIFA World Cup 2026 from that day through Sunday, July 19. Dr. Joe Machnik and Mark Clattenburg will serve as dedicated rules analysts throughout the tournament, adding another layer to the coverage plan.
For viewers, the immediate takeaway is simple: the opening week already has its crews, platforms, and start times. Mexico vs. South Africa leads the schedule at 1:00 PM ET on FOX, and the U.S. opener follows on June 12 with a three-hour pregame window before kickoff.
