Meta Restores Facebook Login After Friday Morning Outage

Facebook login, Instagram, and WhatsApp went down briefly on Friday morning, June 12, affecting Meta's consumer apps and business tools at the same time. Users saw problems across Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp before service began recovering later in the day.

Andy Stone on X

Andy Stone, Meta's vice president of communications, acknowledged the outage on X and said Meta's engineers were working on it. By 1:26 p.m. ET, Meta's business services page said most June 12 disruptions were resolved, and the company wrote, "We have recovered from an earlier outage impacting Ads Creation and Editing, and services have now been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

Instagram Reports Hit 10,000

DownDetector recorded spikes in error reports for Meta products on Friday, with Instagram reaching a peak of 10,000 users reporting problems. Most of those reports were tied to the app, which points to a broader app access issue rather than a single isolated feature.

Meta's business applications page also showed High Disruptions on Friday morning, and the WhatsApp Business Platform still carried that label at 1:26 p.m. ET. That split matters for anyone using Meta's tools to run ads or manage customer messages, because the consumer apps and the business stack were not moving back to normal at the same speed.

By 1:15 p.m. ET, the outages appeared to be easing, but Meta had not given an official cause. The practical next step for affected users was simply to try again once access returned, while businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform still had one service line showing trouble after the main consumer apps had started to recover.
