Jesper Svensson Ties for Second in Toronto After 65
Jesper Svensson is tied for second at the RBC Canadian Open after a second-round 65 at TPC Toronto, putting him in position to climb sharply in the FedEx Cup standings. He was 136th before the week and would move to 93rd if the position holds through the weekend.
TPC Toronto and the 65
Svensson’s 65 left him five under par for the round and tied with four other players after 36 holes. Ben James leads at 10 under par, so Svensson is still chasing the top spot, but he has already turned a middling starting position into real weekend leverage.
He opened the round with a birdie at the first hole and added three more on the front nine. A bogey at the 10th slowed the run, but he closed with birdies at the 14th, 16th and 18th holes to keep the charge going to the end.
Putting Edge for Svensson
The numbers behind the round explain the move up the board. Svensson leads the field in strokes gained from tee after two rounds at +3.74, and his +4.08 in strokes gained putting ranks fifth best in the field.
That combination has him inside the top pack at the halfway point while other notable names from the same event, Pontus Nyholm and Alex Norén, missed the cut at four over par and five over par. Svensson still has two rounds left to protect the position that could lift him from 136th to 93rd on the FedEx Cup list.
FedEx Cup Position
If he holds that ground, the weekend turns into more than a run at the RBC Canadian Open title. It becomes a direct climb into a far better FedEx Cup slot, and the margin between second place and the chase pack is already enough to keep every birdie from here relevant.
