CDC Urges Nara Organics Formula Recall After Three Babies Hospitalized

Federal health officials urged parents to stop using Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula after three babies were hospitalized with botulism in a formula recall tied to a multistate outbreak. The infants were 2 to 5 months old, and the cases were reported in California, Pennsylvania and Washington.

Nara Organics recalled all lots and can sizes of the formula on Friday. The company said customers should stop using all Nara Organics infant formula immediately and throw away or return any unopened cans of the recalled product.

Nara Organics and Laura Modi

Laura Modi, the company’s co-founder and CEO, explained the recall in a statement posted on the company website. Nara Organics said, “We are heartbroken for the concern and stress this may cause your family.”

The formula is sold nationwide through Target stores, Target.com and Nara.com, so the recall reaches families who bought it in stores or online. The CDC said all three infants consumed the formula before becoming ill, and the babies were treated with BabyBIG, the FDA-approved treatment for infant botulism.

CDC Outbreak Investigation

Federal health officials are investigating whether the product was the source of the outbreak, and testing of opened and unopened formula samples is underway. The CDC said the cases were part of a multistate outbreak linked to the product.

For parents and caregivers, the practical step is immediate: stop using the formula and dispose of any unopened cans or return them. The recall applies to all lots and all can sizes, which means families do not need to sort by batch before acting.
