Brooks Koepka Withdraws Before Final Round at RBC Canadian Open

Brooks Koepka Canadian Open withdrawal came on Sunday before he was due to tee off in the final round at the RBC Canadian Open. A hand injury ended his week after he had been near the lead at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.

Koepka, a nine-time PGA TOUR winner, was tied for the lead after an opening-round 64 and then followed with a second-round 68. He later added a 2-over 72 on Saturday, when the issue first became clear in his own words.

Koepka’s Saturday Grip Problem

“Yeah, I don't know what it is,” Koepka said after his round. He said, “I'm struggling to grip the club with my ring finger and pinkie finger, so can't grip it.”

He described the club slipping in his hands and said, “So the club is kind of just, my fingers would come loose, it was kind of numb.” Koepka said, “The whole warm-up, I felt fine, I was absolutely good,” then added, “Then got to the range and went to grip the club and I just couldn't even grip it.”

That Saturday round still held him in the chase, but it also showed the problem was not a brief flare-up. Koepka said, “So it lasted – it was all day,” before adding, “Felt better the last few holes.”

TPC Toronto And The Final Round

The withdrawal came just before his scheduled final-round tee time, removing one of the players who had shaped the leaderboard through three rounds. His opening 64 put him in a tie for the lead, and the 68 followed by the 72 kept him near the top long enough to make Sunday matter.

Koepka’s next stop now carries a separate question. His status for the U.S. Open next week at Shinnecock Hills remains unclear, and that venue is already tied to one of his biggest results: the second of his two U.S. Open titles in 2018.
