Nasheed Smith Signs With Zuffa Boxing After 10-0 Start

Zuffa Boxing has signed Washington, DC, light heavyweight prospect Nasheed “Sugar Sheed” Smith, adding a 25-year-old unbeaten fighter to its roster. Smith arrives at 10-0 with 7 knockouts and says the move opens the next stage of his career.

Smith’s 10-0 Run

Smith’s record is built on fast starts. Six of his early professional wins ended in the opening two rounds, and his 7 knockouts show how often he has been able to finish before the final stretch. His last fight went the distance, and he beat Michael Nelson by decision.

The signing gives Zuffa Boxing a fighter who has already handled both ends of the pro scale: quick stoppages and a full-length decision. For Smith, it is a jump to a higher-profile promotion after putting together an unbeaten start that has held up through 10 fights.

Barry Hunter’s Headbangers Gym

Smith trains out of Barry Hunter’s Headbangers Gym, where he has worked with Hunter as both trainer and manager. He found the gym at age 10 after starting his sporting journey with taekwondo, and that early entry into Hunter’s system has shaped the run that brought him here.

His amateur record gives the signing more weight. Smith won the 2022 National Golden Gloves and the USA National Championships, results that sit behind the unbeaten pro record and help explain why a promotional company would add him now rather than later.

Washington, DC, Tradition

Smith tied the move to the city that raised him. “Washington, DC, has produced many great fighters, and I am proud to follow in that tradition,” he said after the signing.

He added, “This is the start of the ‘Sugar Sheed’ era, and I’m looking to take over the light heavyweight division.”

That is the line he has to back now. A 10-0 record, 7 knockouts, and an unbeaten run that includes six early finishes give him a real platform, but the jump also places more attention on how he handles better opposition after the Michael Nelson decision. For Zuffa Boxing, the move brings in a prospect with amateur credentials, early power, and a clear identity at 25.
