Ruben Amorim Set for AC Milan Move as United Face 16.7 Million Pounds
ruben amorim is close to taking over at AC Milan after leaving Manchester United in January, with the English club having previously calculated a 16.7 million-pound cost to dismiss him and his staff. The move would push Amorim back into management at 41 and leave United with one less compensation burden if he lands the Milan job.
Amorim and AC Milan
AC Milan made Amorim their main target after a disappointing season under Massimiliano Allegri and missing out on Champions League qualification. The club held talks with him and placed him above Oliver Glasner and Mauricio Pochettino, while offering a provisional two-year contract with the possibility of a third season.
That puts Amorim in line for a quick return after his dismissal at Old Trafford in January. He left behind Carlos Fernandes, Adélio Cândido, Emanuel Ferro and Jorge Vital, the coaching staff that came with him.
United's payout burden
United had already set aside 16.7 million pounds to part with Amorim and his coaching team, a figure that sat alongside the 14.5 million pounds the club had paid to separate from Erik ten Hag. If Amorim accepts another job, the club avoids carrying the full cost of a manager it let go midway through the season.
His spell at Old Trafford ended with difficulties getting a 3-4-2-1 system to work in the Premier League. The Milan move offers a clean line through the same question that shaped his exit: whether the setup can be made to function in a different league and under different pressure.
Wroclaw on 15 August
The first immediate meeting between the clubs is already on the calendar. Manchester United will face AC Milan in a preseason friendly on 15 August in Wroclaw, Poland, one week before the start of the new Premier League season.
Amorim was also linked with the Benfica job after José Mourinho left for Real Madrid, but Benfica chose Marco Silva instead. That leaves Milan as the destination that has stayed alive, and it gives United a preseason date against the manager who may soon be sitting on the opposite bench.
