Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Stays Out Sunday as Blue Jays Manage Back Tightness

vladimir guerrero jr. remained out of the Blue Jays lineup on Sunday, and Toronto kept Charles McAdoo at first base against the New York Yankees. The decision came after Guerrero Jr. said his back tightened up during Friday's win and after manager John Schneider said the club was handling the issue cautiously.

Guerrero Jr. Sat Again

Schneider said Saturday, "Back was a little tight yesterday, and been kind of grinding, so just wanted to give him a blow. Talked to him after the game, but he’s feeling a little bit better today," after Toronto chose to hold Guerrero Jr. out. He was absent again Sunday as the Blue Jays tried to close out the series with New York.

Guerrero Jr. went 1-for-5 in Friday's win, with an RBI double and a strikeout, before the back tightness carried into the weekend. He has yet to hit a home run at home this season, and his most recent homer overall came on May 17 against the Detroit Tigers.

Charles McAdoo At First Base

McAdoo continued to start at first base in Guerrero Jr.'s place, keeping Toronto's infield setup unchanged for the series finale. That gave the Blue Jays a steadier replacement option while Guerrero Jr. worked through the discomfort rather than forcing a return before he was ready.

Boston Looms After The Off Day

Toronto had a day off on Monday before opening a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. For the Blue Jays, the immediate task was to manage first base without Guerrero Jr. in Sunday’s lineup, then see whether the extra day gives him a better chance to return for the next set.
