Micah Richards Makes 3,345-Mile World Cup Travel Plan
micah richards said he will keep flying between New York and the UK every few days during his World Cup work, after already making a 3,345-mile trip to Salford for One's coverage of Canada against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The schedule puts him on opposite sides of the Atlantic while he works on television and a live podcast built around the tournament.
Salford Backdrop
Richards was in the studio in Salford with Gary Lineker on the backdrop and joked, "This is amazing. If you look over there you can see Gary Lineker." Gabby Logan told him she was bringing New York to him in the World Cup backdrop, and he replied, "But I'm absolutely buzzing - thanks for the call-up."
That appearance came after time in New York on The Rest Is Football Podcast, streamed live from the US, where Richards, Alan Shearer and Lineker are working together for the World Cup. He is also appearing with Wayne Rooney and Olivier Giroud on coverage, giving him overlapping duties that stretch from a live studio in Salford to a podcast setup overlooking Times Square.
Times Square Commitments
Richards said, "It felt great, more importantly, it's been about the Knicks because they haven't won it (NBA play-offs) for years." Shearer had already described the scene in the city, saying, "I was lucky enough to be in a bar that was rammed and off the charts with people going mad."
Richards added, "We won't feel it until America play (their first World Cup games) but out there it was buzzing." The story has travelled with him: Richards' face has been emblazoned upon the big screens in New York's Times Square as part of the podcast promotion, while the New York Knicks had taken a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals against San Antonio Spurs.
Richards Between Two Studios
After his duties, Richards was due to return to Manhattan to rejoin Lineker and Shearer in their podcast studio overlooking Times Square. The setup leaves him moving from one broadcast base to another every few days, with no sign of the travel easing as the World Cup coverage continues.
