Fresno Heat Advisory Drives Families to Water Parks and Cooling Centers
A heat advisory is in effect through Tuesday as triple-digit temperatures are forecast across the Valley, pushing Fresno families toward water parks and other places to cool off. At Wild Water Adventure Park, sixth grader Brison said, “Being here with friends and family, it just makes everything special. It's like memories.”
Wild Water Adventure Park
Wild Water Adventure Park recently opened the Lost River, its newest attraction at the 52-acre facility. The ride is a horseshoe-shaped, three-foot-deep endless loop designed for floaters, and about a dozen lifeguards supervise it.
Kathy Siggers, the park’s co-founder and chief operating officer, said, “This is a way that a parent can have a peace of mind, the kids get the thrills, but they're in a safe environment.” Brison added after visiting, “I'd recommend this 100 percent. It's the best place,”
Fresno Cooling Centers
The city of Fresno offers cooling centers and community centers when temperatures reach or exceed 105 degrees. Josh Sellers, a Fresno Fire Department spokesman, said the community centers are normally closed on weekends, but the city can open them on Saturdays or Sundays if extreme heat conditions warrant it.
Fresno also has nine splash pads that give families another free option when the heat rises. For residents looking for relief before summer officially begins, the practical choice is to use the city’s cooling sites once temperatures cross 105 degrees and to look for weekend openings if the heat holds.
