Uk Weather Forecast: 28C Heat Alerts Cover Four UK Regions
Heat is set to return in the uk weather forecast later this week, with temperatures expected to reach 28C in some places and yellow heat health alerts in force from Wednesday 17 June to Monday 22 June. The UK Health Security Agency has issued the alerts for the East Midlands, East of England, London and the south-east.
The alerts are intended to help health and social care services prepare for hotter weather and reduce the harms that extended periods of heat can have on health. The warm spell is expected to build through Thursday and Friday before temperatures ease again into the weekend.
England And Scotland Forecast
All parts of the UK should feel warmer than last week, when conditions were rather cool. Western Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to see highs of around 19-21C at the start of the week, while elsewhere temperatures in the low to mid-20s Celsius can be expected on some days.
Eastern areas of the UK are likely to see the highest temperatures later this week. Forecasts suggest highs of around 28C, or 82F, with actual temperatures possibly a couple of degrees either side of that.
Yellow Alerts From Wednesday
The yellow alerts begin on Wednesday 17 June and last until Monday 22 June. They cover the East Midlands, East of England, London and the south-east, giving health and care services six days to adjust staffing and pressure points during the warmest stretch.
That period lines up with the main burst of heat, expected on Thursday and Friday, when the forecast points to the highest temperatures of the week. Nights and the early commute are expected to become warmer too, which can stretch routines even when daytime temperatures fall back later on.
Westerly Winds Into Weekend
The weather is expected to be drier for most people, although spells of rain will still feature. Pollen levels are also likely to rise as temperatures increase after wet weather, adding another factor for people already sensitive to changing conditions.
A switch to westerly winds into the weekend means temperatures will dip again. Some computer models suggest the possibility of a brief resurgence of heat the following week, but the immediate focus remains on the 28C peak and the yellow alerts already in place.
