Dakota Guerrant Battle Tightens as Oregon Presses Michigan
Oregon is still trying to land dakota guerrant, a five-star wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class from Harper Woods High in Michigan. Michigan is pressing hard to keep him home, and that has kept the recruitment centered on one state and two programs.
Tom Loy on Michigan's push
Tom Loy said, "The Wolverines are doing everything possible to keep him home," which is the clearest sign that Oregon is not dealing with a simple out-of-state chase. Michigan’s edge is geographic and immediate: Guerrant is already part of the state’s top football pipeline, and the Wolverines are working to keep him from leaving it.
Oregon remains in the hunt, and Dan Lanning’s staff has already shown it can win over prospects late. The Ducks brought in three-star wide receiver Malachi Garlington by flipping him from Washington State, and they also gained a verbal commitment from three-star edge rusher Achilles Reyna after his Eugene visit.
Bryce Underwood precedent
Michigan’s pursuit carries more weight because it has already stopped one major in-state departure. Bryce Underwood, who rose to five-star status out of Belleville, Michigan, for the 2025 class, initially belonged to LSU before the Tigers claimed him first. That history gives the Wolverines a recent example of keeping elite talent from escaping the state.
For Oregon, the challenge is clear: land a top Michigan receiver while fighting a program that is treating him as a home-state priority. For Guerrant, the recruiting picture is now down to whether the Ducks can overcome Michigan’s push before the 2027 class takes shape around him.
