Grant Holmes Eyes Another Start as Braves Host Giants — Giants Vs Braves

The Braves return to giants vs braves on Tuesday, June 16 at 7:15 pm EDT with Grant Holmes expected to get another start. Atlanta is coming home after arguably its worst stretch of the season, and the pitching plan is already shaped by rotation injuries.

Grant Holmes Gets Another Turn

Holmes has been much harder to square up the second time through a lineup. He has held hitters to a.187/.256/.280 slash line the first time he faces them in a game, then has seen that line jump to.317/.391/.663 in the second look.

That split makes this start more than a routine turn through the rotation. Didier Fuentes could enter in a long relief role early if Holmes works through trouble, giving Atlanta a fallback if the outing turns quickly.

Adrian Houser Faces Atlanta

The Giants will counter with Adrian Houser, whose numbers include a 5.54 ERA, a 1.538 WHIP and a 5.44 xERA. Those figures have put him among the less effective starters Atlanta has seen, and the Braves’ lineup has a clear history against him.

Austin Riley has seventeen at-bats against Houser and is hitting.471 with a home run. Ozzie Albies has sixteen at-bats against him and is hitting.375 with a.974 OPS, while Michael Harris has eight at-bats against Houser and is also hitting.375. Matt Olson is the outlier, hitting.182 with a.630 OPS in eleven at-bats.

Braves Need Runs

Atlanta’s offense enters this series in a rough spot, with the Braves scoring more runs than only three other MLB teams in June. Drake Baldwin is back for the series, which gives the lineup another bat as the club tries to stop the slide at home.

Only four Giants hitters have faced Holmes before, and Rafael Devers has been the most productive of that group, going 2-for-5 for a.400 average. The Braves now have to pair a thin rotation with a lineup that has not produced enough, and Tuesday’s game gives them a first chance to steady both ends at once.
