José Mourinho Blocks Nico Paz Return to Real Madrid
Nico Paz may stay at Como for another season after José Mourinho made clear he does not see room for him in the Real Madrid squad. The move would push back a return that had looked secure weeks earlier. For Paz, the choice now sits between regular minutes in Italy and a battle for a place in Madrid.
Nico Paz and Mourinho
The conversation between coach and player cooled the path back to Real Madrid. Mourinho cannot guarantee him continuity and does not want to pile up young players with similar characteristics if one of them is left on the bench.
Paz does not want to return only to complete the squad. After becoming a reference in Italy and earning a place with Argentina, he believes he must play regularly. He can operate as an attacking midfielder, an offensive interior midfielder or on a wing, but that versatility has not changed the coach’s view of the current squad balance.
Real Madrid and Bellingham
Real Madrid still controls his future through buyback rights, so the club has not lost the player. But the same squad already needs freedom between the lines for Jude Bellingham, while Franco Mastantuono also needs minutes if he does not end up leaving. Mourinho wants immediate performance, not minutes handed out for potential.
That leaves Paz in a difficult but clear position. He remains one of the club’s controlled gems, yet he will have to wait to prove he can succeed at the Bernabéu.
Argentina and Como
Argentina brings him to the World Cup in strong form, and he arrives as one of the team’s most dangerous options, even ahead of Leo Messi in this run of form. Messi remains the leader and symbol of Argentina, but Paz has added energy and continuity over ninety minutes that the national team can use.
Staying another season at Como has become a more attractive option, especially because he would not mind the possibility of playing in the Champions League there. For now, the decision points away from Madrid and toward another year in Italy, where the next step for one of Argentina’s new additions may be more minutes, not a quick return.
