Bonnie Tyler Very Unwell After Portugal Surgery, Tour Dates Cancelled
Bonnie Tyler is very unwell after emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal, but she is no longer in a coma. The 75-year-old singer remains in intensive care in hospital, and the change in her condition now shifts attention to the summer dates already being pulled back.
Portugal Hospital Update
A spokesperson said Tyler “was no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal”. That is the clearest change since she was rushed to hospital in Faro in May and placed in an induced coma to help her recover.
Her team added that progress is slow: “Although her condition is improving it is a slow process.” The same statement said, “Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time.”
Summer Tour Fallout
Her summer tour will be cancelled or postponed, including the Sunshine Festival in Worcester and dates in Europe. For anyone holding tickets, the practical effect is immediate: the run that was supposed to keep her on the road this season is being cut back while she stays in hospital.
The team also asked for privacy and told fans, “We apologise to all of Bonnie's fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances.” That leaves promoters and ticket holders waiting for revised plans rather than a full return to the road.
Cardiff Date Still Held
Some autumn dates are still hoped to go ahead, and Tyler is booked to perform at Cardiff's Utilita Arena on 17 December. That makes the Cardiff show the clearest marker for when her schedule could begin to open up again if her recovery keeps improving.
Tyler’s long career gives the latest update extra weight: born Gaynor Hopkins, she grew up in a council house in Neath and became an international sensation with “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in 1983. The song has since passed 1bn streams, 43 years after release, which is why even a short interruption in her calendar carries real commercial and logistical fallout.
