Danny Rohl Leaves Rangers Fc for Red Bull Salzburg After Eight Months

Danny Rohl has left Rangers fc after just eight months in charge to become Red Bull Salzburg's head coach. Rangers are now preparing for another managerial change after ending the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season without silverware and finishing third.

Rohl Leaves Ibrox

Rohl replaced Russell Martin in October, but his spell ended with Rangers waiting to appoint a successor in due course. The club said news of their replacement “will follow in due course,” while Andrew Cavenagh thanked him for his service and commitment to Rangers.

“I'd like to thank Danny for his service and commitment to Rangers,” Cavenagh said after the departure. “He and his staff put in a significant amount of hard work during his time in charge, which we are greatly appreciative of.” “We wish them the best of luck moving forward.”

Rangers Third-Place Finish

The departure lands after a damaging end to the season. Rangers steered into a three-way title fight under Rohl, then lost four of their final five games in a post-split collapse that left them behind Celtic and Hearts.

That finish extends the pressure on Ibrox, with Hearts head coach Derek McInnes widely expected to succeed him. Rangers are preparing to appoint a third boss in 12 months, a run that shows how quickly the club has moved through managers since Rohl took over.

Salzburg's New Opening

Salzburg move quickly as well. Daniel Beichler was sacked last month after just 14 games, and Rohl arrives at a club that came third in Austria last season, their lowest finish in two decades.

His route to this job has been steady. He began coaching at Leipzig under Ralph Hasenhuttl, joined him at Southampton in 2018, moved to Bayern Munich as Hansi Flick's assistant and helped the club win the Bundesliga, then was appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager in 2023. Salzburg will enter the Europa League at the third qualifying round, the same stage as Rangers.

Rohl still had two years left on his Rangers deal when he left, but the move gives Salzburg an immediate replacement and leaves Rangers to make their next call fast.
