GM reveals 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5.7-liter V8
GM revealed the 2027 chevy silverado 1500 with new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 engines, a revised cabin, and a seven-trim lineup. The truck goes on sale at the end of this year, putting a refreshed full-size pickup into a market where Ford's F-Series is under pressure from aluminum supply constraints.
Scott Bell on Silverado
Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet, said Silverado has earned truck customers' trust over decades of hard work in the real world. He added, "We're taking that legacy forward by building the most capable, refined, and advanced Silverado lineup we've ever offered."
Chevrolet said the redesigned truck is the most powerful and advanced Silverado ever. The new powertrain lineup keeps four choices: the two new V8s, an enhanced 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder paired with a 10-speed transmission, and the segment-exclusive Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel.
2027 Silverado powertrains
The company said the 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter engines are the lead pair, and that Silverado has the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. Chevrolet will build the V8 engines at GM's Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines Propulsion plants.
That matters for buyers who care about engine choice more than badge changes. GM is also extending its investment in V8s after customers continued to favor the engine option, while the truck itself moves into a lineup that now includes Work Truck, Custom, Silverado, High Country, ZR2, Trail Boss, and Custom Trail Boss.
Digital cockpit and trims
Every Silverado gets a digital cockpit with a 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch driver information center as standard. ZR2 and High Country add an 11.5-inch front passenger screen, head-up display, and rear camera mirror, and Super Cruise hands-free driving is on offer.
The styling is all-new, with more angular bodywork, new LED headlights and taillights, more pronounced wheel-opening moldings, and rocker treatments. Custom and above get standard dual exhaust, which marks the point where the truck starts to move beyond the base work-truck layout.
Ford F-Series sales
GM timed the reveal as Ford's F-Series is dealing with a supply squeeze tied to aluminum shortages from fires at Novelis' plant in the fall of 2025. Ford sold 69,175 F-Series trucks in May, down 13.3% from a year earlier, and sales through the first five months of 2026 totaled 291,124, down 15.1% year over year.
For shoppers, the next step is simple: the 2027 Silverado is now a real choice, not a concept. The combination of more powertrain options, a larger standard display setup, and a sale date at the end of this year gives dealers a clear product to hold against a competitor facing inventory strain.
