Chalmette Honors Robinson

St. Bernard Parish announced the parade Tuesday on its Facebook page, turning Robinson’s championship into a local event for the parish where he graduated high school in 2017. The route will travel eastbound along Judge Perez Drive for approximately 1.6 miles.

“Mitchell Robinson’s journey from Chalmette High School to NBA Champion has made our entire community proud. We invite residents, friends, and fans to come out and help us celebrate this incredible accomplishment.”

Butch Stockton, Robinson’s high school coach, said the parish is already feeling the pull of the moment. “Everybody is really excited in the parish,” Stockton said. “It means a lot to see him win a championship.”

Knicks Title Week

The parade comes in the middle of a crowded championship week for Robinson. The Knicks are holding their victory parade Thursday in New York City, giving him one public celebration with the team and another back home in Chalmette.

Robinson’s path to this point runs through Chalmette High, where he played two seasons after moving to Louisiana from Pensacola, Florida. He was drafted by the Knicks in the second round of the 2018 draft and has become the longest tenured member of the team.

Robinson’s Series Run

Robinson helped the Knicks win their first NBA title in 53 years on Saturday, when they beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games. He averaged 3.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in the series, guarded Victor Wembanyama on a potential game-winning shot in Game 2, and secured a key rebound on a missed free throw late in the series-clinching game.

He will also hold his annual camp earlier Thursday, from 10-2 at the Val Riess Sports Complex. By the time the parade reaches Chalmette High School, the celebration will have already started across town, and the parish will be marking a homegrown title run with a route built to end where his local story began.
