Rüdiger flags Amad Diallo as Ivory Coast danger

Antonio Rudiger put Amad Diallo on Germany’s radar before the second group-stage game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Germany defender named the Manchester United player as one of Ivory Coast’s main attacking threats and added that Diomande and Nicolas Pepe also demand attention.

Rudiger on Ivory Coast pace

“We’ll have to keep a very close eye on Diomande.” Rudiger went further and said, “Diomande stands out but also Nicolas Pepe and Amad Diallo. These are like express trains that you see coming. They love one-on-one situations and the quick transitions.”

That is the clearest warning Germany have had before facing an Ivory Coast attack built on speed and direct running. The comment came with Saturday, 20 June, at Toronto Stadium already fixed on the schedule, so the message is aimed at immediate match planning rather than general tournament talk.

Amad’s World Cup start

Amad has already changed a game at this World Cup. He came off the bench against Ecuador and scored a late winner, then followed that with 34 minutes of first-team action in the opening round of matches while completing the most take-ons in that stretch.

For Germany, that is the awkward part. The same player Rudiger singled out arrives with a mixed 2025/26 season behind him: two goals and four assists from 33 games for Manchester United, but only one assist in 17 games after Michael Carrick’s arrival. Earlier in the campaign, he was a fit under Ruben Amorim in the 3-4-3 system, mainly at right wing-back.

Germany and Ivory Coast

Rudiger’s own tournament role adds a little more weight to the warning. He started Germany’s opening game on the bench and entered in the 72nd minute as Germany beat Curaçao 7-1. He is now shaping the defensive conversation before a second straight group-stage test.

That leaves Germany with a clear scouting target and a familiar problem: the attacker on the other side has already delivered in this World Cup, while his club season has been uneven enough to make every touch worth tracking. Will Amad Diallo start against Germany on Saturday, 20 June?
